A Train More Play Less Organization

The TMPL Off-Season Training Outline

Training during the off-season is an important component of player development and ensuring that when the season picks back up your child is ready to hit the field and play at a championship level.  As such, Americans baseball has put together a detailed outline of our training throughout the off-season which you can see below.

October

October

TESTING

Players will report on the first Saturday of the month.  We will run every kid through the TMPL testing. We want to see where all our players stand before we start our off-season training.

CULTURE

The first thing that we have to do is create a culture that is clear to our families and to our players.  Culture is everything.  Culture drives expectations and beliefs.  Expectations and beliefs drive behaviors.  Behaviors drive habits.  Habits create the future.  Once we have a culture, and we know what we stand for every decision we make will be easy.

CONDITIONING

Players will condition 2-3 days per week. Our goal during October is to get all of our players in baseball shape. We understand some of our players will be playing another sport during this time, so we will try to schedule around the majority. If we can’t make it work, the players playing another sport will attend when they can or do the workouts at home. We will post every workout on our online platform.

STRETCHING/MOBILITY

Our goal is to build a stretching routine. Our players need to understand stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. We want to reduce injury.

ARM CARE

Our goal is to teach our players the TMPL arm care program. We want to stress to all our players how important it is to take care of their arm.  We want to make sure all of our players are throwing the ball correctly. We start out slow and stress the fundamentals of throwing. We want to make sure all of our players actually know how to throw the baseball using their body before we start lengthening our catch.

PROGRAM MANUALS

We will use this month to review our TMPL manuals.  We want to make sure all of our players understand how we are going to play the game. We want to make sure all of our players understand their jobs. Our players have access to all of our TMPL manuals on our online platform (Coachnow).

TEAM WORKOUTS

All of our players will report to their age groups. Every team will have its own practice days. Each team will practice 2-3 days per week. We will use this month to go over the fundamentals of the game (Infield, Outfield, Baserunning, Hitting, Bunting, Bunt Defense, 1st & 3rd Defense, Picks etc..). This month will be slow and deliberate.

CULTURE
